Annual Open Enrollment Period for Medicare

October 15th - December 7th

Also known as the Annual Election Period (AEP)


During the Annual Open Enrollment Period for Medicare you have the opportunity to make changes to your Medicare health insurance coverage for the upcoming year. Changes made to your Medicare coverage will begin January 1st of the next year.

* Note that AEP is only for those who already have Medicare and wish to make changes.

Allowed coverage changes during the Annual Open Enrollment Period

  • Join a Medicare Advantage Plan
  • Drop your current Medicare Advantage Plan and switch to a new plan
  • Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan
  • Switch from a Medicare Advantage Plan to Original Medicare
  • Join a Part D Prescription Drug Plan
  • Drop your current Part D Prescription Drug Plan and switch to a new plan
